“Thanks, but I'm educated about this. Yes, prime numbers are important, but finding the next largest Mersenne prime is a task that contributes absolutely nothing of practical value to humanity. If I'm wrong and there is a use for it, please enlighten me. It's a shame these people aren't donating their computing cycles to Folding@Home, which actually has a useful purpose.

Best way to spend stimulus money? don't spend it.?
Show me were it says that any of your analog outputs will be active. According to the article, any output outside of HDMI can be disabled. Also, entire channels will be unwatchable unless you are unwilling to purchase new hardware"The MPAA has made assurances that cable companies will warn its customers that certain cable channels can only be viewed if you have the correct equipment, but they have been very vague about how they will do this."There is no reason that cable compaines can't release these videos in 720p or something. That way, they protect the "high value" content while allowing all consumers to enjoy the material. Don't forget, there already is protection for analog outputs. Macrovision still uses it for DVDs. Is this easily hackable? Yes, but then the pirates will have put copies on the internet anyway so it's not like it matters anyway. This is just another effort by the studios to get hardware manufacturers to protect thier content and have consumers foot the bill for it.Personally, if they really want to create a better product for the consumer AND protect thier investment without screwing the consumer, here's how i'd tackle it:1) Make a better product. Stop using the same old tired formulas and think outside the box. Independent studios will help alot in this regard.2) Have one worldwide release date. No more staggered release dates. That decreases the incentive that someone in China can pirate a movie that hasn't been released over here yet.3) Shortly after the theatrical release, do rental release only, but charge rental places $60 or $80 bucks per copy (similiar to how it was done early on). This allows them to make up some of the lost revenue from lost direct to market sales while creating a market for the struggling brick and mortar rental stores.4) After rental, then do DVD sale/Video on Demand/Internet Download all at the same time. Just so you don't cannabalize one of the areas, have Video on Demand and Internet Download be 480p while DVD/Blu Ray disks will be at thier proper resolutions.5) After a brief direct to market sales period, have VOD and internet download go to full high definition resolution.Everyone won't be happy, but nothig will make everyone happy. This flow (imo) spreads the money around to the most markets while still protecting the consumer. |

Isn't that the gun they pried from his cold, dead fingers after they took him off the cross? I read it in the Conservative Bible Project, so it must be true.

R.L. Stine didn't just write Goosebumps but the slightly more sexed-up "Fear Street" series which was aimed at Teenage Girls. Something about him describing High School boys always made him seem kind of pervy to me. He'd always write from the girls POV and describe how they lusted after the boys.... |
