"At a guess, about the time big business was able to convince political leaders that providing a business welfare state was going to lead to a better economy for all"more like convince political leaders that providing a welfare state for business was going to lead to a big fat check on the side for said leaders
You don't even rate as an amateur troll.

A huge ring around the moon would be perfect.?
Radan: Indeed they did.I imagine there's an entire division of MBA's at Microsoft who's job it is to calculate the risk-reward ratio of various illegal and immoral tactics; computing the harm the damage will do to competitors vs. the cost of a lawsuit settlement payment. If they do these things intentionally - is that illegal? Or just required by a corporation trying to maximize profits?

My question would be are these double blind studies? The hawthorn effect and diagnosis and simple timing can hopelessly cloud results. Considering the number of people I have taken care that got GB after the flu shot I seriously question the veracity of the record keeping. I hate to say it but it is entirely in a DRs best interest to question the connection between GP ad a Flu shot to avoid a malpractice suit even if you are not just clouding the issue as a coping mechanism. It is hard not to second guess yourself when that happens. Even good choices have risks. GB is hardly a minor disease, even aside from the physiological scarring, it can kill and permanently disable people from complications and often does. My major concern is just that the tracking and research is of poor quality. With out due care how can the person be informed properly of the risks vs benefits and make a true informed decision? There is research that conscientious immunization is associated with decreased life span. Again I am not questioning the use in high risk populations and even for healthy people who choose to do it for altruistic reasons if they get the elusive info to make an informed consent. I also give no credence to the popular alarmist concerns surrounding the superficial media coverage. It is not medically based. It is a life saver for many and well worth the risk in many cases and well may help the community.
