Painting Classes

Oil Painting

With Award-winning artist Linda DeStefanis

Classes in Oil Painting with Award-winning Artist Linda DeStefanis, CT.png

"This weekly class is for oil painting only and I will take up to five students, so it is semi-private in my studio. We will work in a realistic style on landscapes and waterscapes. Weekly classes begin in October from 10 to 12 noon. Contact me for the class fees and dates.

My style of painting is Contemporary Realism. I often use one to three of my photos in order to complete a painting. Some photos will be used for the composition and others for close-ups of sections I may need for a more detailed area. I paint in oils primarily now and work in layers. Each layer will dry overnight because I use Fine Detail Liquin as my medium, with a bit of Gamsol. This way I can stop at a good point and resume the next day, laying new paint over the last layer." -- Linda DeStefanis

Needle Felting, Fiber Art Workshops

Workshops in Needle Felting and Felted Landscape

With Award-winning artist Diane Cadrain

Textile Art Classes with Diane Cadrain, CT.png

"Students don’t need prior experience to learn and enjoy the process of needle felting. Each student receives a needle felting pad made of dense foam, a rectangle of raw silk, a piece of commercial felt as a backing for the raw silk, a felting barb, and as much merino wool as they would like to use. If the class concentrates on felted landscapes, students will provide their own landscape photos to use as inspiration or borrow a photo from Diane. If the class focuses on felted pet portraits, students will work from photos of their pets.

In either type of class, students will trace or draw their chosen scenes or pet portraits onto the raw silk, then use the soft merino wool as if it were paint, applying it to the background of raw silk with a felting barb. The barb has a series of tiny sharp notches that catch onto tiny, microscopic scales in the wool, similar to those of a pine cone. When the wool latches onto the notches on the barb, it is pushed through the background, adhering to it.  In this way, the students create glorious felted landscapes or textured pet portraits, which they may embellish with hand embroidery or shiny Angelina fibers for glitz. At the end of the class, each student will have prepared a work of art suitable for framing." -- Diane Cadrain

Workshops in Wet and Needle Felted Art

"In my personal life and as an artist, I care about spiritual things. I desire to create art that draws others into a meaningful conversation. What touches them and why? Is my art expressing something true in their life? Does it stir up a longing for their life or the world? As a spiritual person, these questions are important to me but it goes further. I desire to focus on what people have in common, not what divides them. I strive to inspire thoughts and conversation about universal ideas of living in kindness, supporting one another and bringing peace in the world...Whether human form or landscape, my goal is to help the viewer pause from their fast pace of life and take a moment for deeper reflection." -- Kristen Walsh
