Become a Member of CWA

Come and join us in our ventures to beautify the world we live in, express your talents, and meet new friends. Be part of a premier organization of respected and highly accomplished women artists.  All women artists residing in Connecticut are eligible to become members.  All CWA membership is referred to as "elected membership" because it grants membership when an artist is either accepted into two CWA open juried shows or through a portfolio review which occurs once a year in September for new members.

What Members Say About CWA

I believe that being accepted as a member and then invited to be on the Council of Connecticut Women Artists proved to be an important opportunity. I have worked with outstanding, accomplished women, forged lasting friendships, and made valuable connections while working in the cause of supporting and promoting women in the arts. I would encourage all women artists to not only pursue membership in CWA but to also know that membership means actively accepting responsibility for seeing that the organization's aims are carried out through involvement in this wonderful organization.
Dian Kingsbury, Member of CWA

CWA has definitely helped me to become more active in creating new experimental pieces and participating in group art shows. The group appreciates a variety of styles and challenges us to push our limits. There are always surprises and inspirations at the shows, and the members are serious about their art, as well as encouraging each other to keep at it and to grow into new subjects, media, and perspectives.
Anne Sheffield, CWA Council Member

The Featured Artists Gallery provides a chance for artists to get more exposure for their work.  It contains online dedicated galleries that show three works of the artist's including the artist's name, mediums, and an artist's statement. The images in these dedicated galleries can be enlarged on the screen to appear in their original proportions. Annual Meeting

Once a year, all members are invited to come together for an annual meeting and enjoy the camaraderie of other members. The organization’s officers bring the group up-to-date on future exhibitions and projects. The election of Officers is held every two years at this meeting. The recent annual meeting was held at the historical Florence Griswold Museum and gardens along the banks of the Connecticut river in Old Lyme.

Monthly Membership News

Members are kept up-to-date about all that is going on in the organization as well as upcoming events in the newsletter. The Newsletter Editor also generously takes the time to search out pertinent information about other gallery events, show openings, awards given to members, media kudos, field trips to take, possible art residency locations, and additional online information.

Special Events Opportunities

Exclusive special events for members take place at various times throughout the year offering our members a chance to network and experience art at exceptional venues.  Recent trips have included a private tour of the historical Hillstead Museum in Connecticut and a visit to New York’s Brooklyn Museum to view separate exhibitions featuring Judy Chicago's and Frida Kahlo's work.

Members' exhibitions, opening receptions, residencies, workshops, and other member news is published on CWA's website on the Member News page.
