Most of my paintings derive from a free associative gestural movement, an approach going back to the abstract expressionist painters of the 1950s. I tend to build layers and then excavate the paint and other products in search of shapes I find interesting or haven’t seen before.
 

The three paintings presented here are loosely painted abstracts, in reaction to the devastating wildfires that took place in southern California in 2025. In these works, I diverged from looking for shapes in my work and instead captured my feelings through immediate gesture and color.
