About the Benton Museum of Art

This year's exhibition will be at the William Benton Museum of Art at the University of Connecticut, a fitting venue for showcasing the works selected from artists across the United States.

Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the William Benton Museum is the State of Connecticut's art museum. It holds a collection of over 7,500 works of art and presents exhibitions that include sculptures, drawings, paintings, prints, and photographs. Sited on the campus of the University of Connecticut at Storrs, the museum officially opened in 1967. The Benton has added works by Mary Cassatt, Thomas Hart Benton, Fairfield Porter, George Bellows, Gustav Klimt, Rembrandt Peale, Maurice Prendergast, Hank Willis Thomas, Kiki Smith, and Jaune Quick-To-See Smith among others. The Benton is a vital part of UCONN's environment, a museum of distinction, and one of the Northeast's most important art venues.

Juror's Statement

"It has been such a treat to jury the Connecticut Women Artists' 2025 National OpenJuried Exhibition as the relatively new dean of the School of Fine Arts at UConn. It is inspiring to see how much skilled and heartfelt talent fills every corner of my new home state. And it was a priviledge to spend contemplative time with the more than 400 submissions – all of which echoed the stories of artists dedicated to the
life-long cultivation of their work. It was a tough task to narrow that down to the 50 or so that you will enjoy on the walls of the Benton, but I believe there is something for everybody, lifting up the rich variety of experiences represented by the women of Connecticut. I hope that your personal experience with these works will bring you the gift of new knowledge and connection, as art does best. A special thanks to
the CWA and the Benton for inviting me to participate, and for all they do to promote the exceptional work of women artists in Connecticut."
