Welcome to CWA's Annual Members' Juried Show

"This exhibition holds special meaning for me. Having stepped into the role of President this past October, I also have the privilege of serving as Show Chair for the first time. It has been a remarkable way to begin my tenure, working directly with our members and witnessing firsthand the depth of creativity, professionalism, and commitment within our organization.

This year we received the highest number of entries for the Members' Show from the largest number of participating artists - 257 entries by 113 members! That level of engagement is more than a milestone; it is a reflection of the excitement, momentum, and remarkable talent that define CWA members.

In my monthly communications, I have emphasized collaboration and expanded opportunities for involvement. The response has been inspiring, and this exhibition is a tangible result of that shared energy. Each work presented here represents not only artistic excellence, but the vitality of a growing and engaged community.

Thank you to every artist who submitted work and to all who helped bring this show to life. I am proud of this show and excited for what lies ahead.
"

Sincerely,
Sarah Grote
CWA President & 2026 Annual Members’ Juried Show Chair

About the Juror

Janet M Warner is an artist and educator based in New Haven. She has an MFA from Western Connecticut State University and is Adjunct Professor of Studio Arts at Quinnipiac University, Gateway Community College, and
Community College of Rhode Island teaching color theory, design, painting, and drawing. She exhibits throughout Connecticut, New York, and beyond. She has a studio in Erector Square where her grandma and her sisters worked during WWII. Her art practice has been focused on a nonobjective exploration of color and color relationships, allowing the process of mixing pigments to dictate the color boundaries and color relationships within her paintings.

Juror's Statement

"As I selected the works for this exhibition, I placed a strong emphasis on how each artist approached color and the relationships within their work. I was deeply inspired by the depth and quality of the submissions. Many of the works demonstrated a sophisticated understanding of color as more than surface decoration; instead using it as structure, atmosphere, and emotional language. Throughout the selection process, I carefully considered how each piece would exist not only on its own, but in conversation with the others. I revisited the submissions multiple times, evaluating how color harmonies, contrasts, and tonal shifts might build a cohesive visual narrative across the gallery space. Rather than selecting works solely for individual impact, I was intentional about how each piece would contribute to an overarching visual dialogue that would unfold as viewers move through the exhibition. Equally important was the range of mediums represented. I was interested in creating a strong presence of multiple materials and processes, from painting, mixed media, and other approaches. Allowing the diversity of technique to enrich the overall experience. I paid close attention to how artists structured their compositions, whether abstract or representational, and how form, movement, balance, and spatial relationships were resolved within each piece.

The final exhibition reflects both individual artistic strength and collective harmony. While each artist maintains a distinct voice, the works resonate together through shared sensitivity to color, compositional awareness, and material exploration. The result is a show that feels visually dynamic yet cohesive, inviting viewers to experience both the depth of each work and the broader dialogue created when they are brought together."
